The Herkimer Co. Dairy Promotion Committee is a non-profit organization dedicated to representing the dairy farmers of our county in a positive light while promoting the industry to as many consumers as possible. The members of the committee dedicate their time and energy on a volunteer basis every day to ensure that the dairy industry will continue to thrive in Herkimer County. Members meet monthly to discuss advertising, promotional events, and ways to better serve the farmers of the county. New members and new ideas are always welcomed.

Our 2010-2011 Dairy Princess Court is off to a great start! Some highlights of the last several months include promotions at Wegman's, Wal-Mart and the Little Falls Big M; school programs in Little Falls, having a float in the Memorial Day parade where they handed out cheese sticks rather than the usual candy, and Dairy Bingo at the adult care program. The girls and members of the promotion committee will be there throughout the week, manning the booth and participating in different events!

Our main form of promotion is through the Dairy Princess program, because it is the most highly visible to the public and the public can easily relate to the girls and understand our industry better through them. One of the key focuses of the Dairy Princess program and our committee is making sure that consumers are getting the adequate amount of dairy products in their diet. By visiting the "Dairy in Your Diet" link, you can find nutritional information, recipes that use dairy products, and special sections for moms and athletes - people who milk can really benefit but they just aren't getting enough! Also, children can visit the "Kids' Corner" page for printable coloring pages, games and fun trivia that teach them where milk comes from and why it is important to make sure they're consuming enough dairy every day.

About Herkimer County

Herkimer County is located in the North Central area of New York State. Agriculture is the leading industry in Herkimer County, and according to the 2002 Census of Agriculture, dairy products made up 76% of the total sales for agricultural products in Herkimer County.

The county extends from the Adirondacks to the Mohawk Valley. While the forests that make up mostof the northern part of the county are not ideal for agriculture, its southern valleys are perfect for dairy farming.
